Improve US-China Relations
In Congress, I will fight to deescalate our Cold War with China. Our current stance towards China risks escalating into a hot war, and that would be disastrous. Instead, we should move towards cooperation rather than opposition. While we disagree with China on a number of issues, there are major international issues where we must work together including climate change, ending nuclear proliferation, and stopping the risk of existential runaway AI.
I also support maintaining the current U.S. One China Policy which has helped maintain peace and collaboration between our nations. I also support the U.S. Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 that allows us to maintain a relationship with Taiwan. While I support continuing to send defensive weapons to Taiwan, I would oppose efforts to proactively send offensive weapons or deploy U.S. troops to Taiwan. The goal of America's China and Taiwan strategy should be, above all else, to foster long-term peace for all parties.
