A Foreign Policy of Peace

End the Cuba Embargo

For over sixty years, the United States has imposed an economic embargo on Cuba — and for over sixty years, it has failed at everything except inflicting suffering on ordinary Cubans. The embargo is an act of collective punishment, and its impact falls hardest on the poorest and most vulnerable people on the island.

The Trump administration has made it crueler still. The current fuel embargo has triggered mass shortages across Cuba, leaving people without reliable electricity and transportation, and causing hunger to spike. This policy is the deliberate immiseration of an entire population. The end point of this campaign of economic strangulation is an American invasion of Cuba — something Trump has openly talked about again and again.

As your Congressman, I will vote to end the Cuban embargo and stand up to the Trump administration's warmongering by passing a new War Powers Resolution to make clear that Trump does not have the legal authority to invade Cuba.
