Term Limits
The longer politicians stay in Congress, the less they represent the people who sent them there. They get comfortable, they build their careers around the fundraising and lobbying machine in Washington, and they slowly drift from the communities they were elected to fight for. Too many members of Congress have been there for decades, and it shows — in the legislation they pass, the donors they answer to, and the urgency they've lost.
In Congress, I'll fight to establish a 12-year term limit for both the House and the Senate — six terms in the House, two in the Senate — and an 18-year term limit for Supreme Court justices. These reforms will ensure that public service stays public service, rather than a lifetime career.
