We Can Stop Stock Trading Corruption in Congress Now!
Every year, leading members of Congress make millions from stock trades that often seem to be made with privileged information they gained in their public duties. But there's a way we can get Congress to ban stock trading this year!
Insider stock trading in Congress is a major factor in undermining trust in government. Members claim they're just getting lucky. But many are beating the market. Nancy Pelosi's portfolio even beat Warren Buffett's legendary stock picking over the past 11 years.
We are organizing local groups to meet with their member of Congress or their staff in their local offices all over the country to show our representatives that their constituents are fed up with insider trading in Congress. Most representatives say they want to ban stock trading in Congress. And 78% of voters support banning stock trading in Congress, with almost equal levels of support from people in both parties. So why won't Congress ban it? The answer is that the leadership in each party will not allow a vote on a ban.
We have a strategy to overcome this. Any member of Congress can force a floor vote on a bill with a "discharge petition." We believe many will be willing to do this, and we should wait to see what the best combination of members will be for this step.
Then, we need a simple majority of members to sign the discharge petition. That's where our citizen lobbying comes in! Believe it or not, a visit from a group of constituents asking to discuss a bill is a very rare thing for local Congressional offices. Corporate and other professional lobbyists come all the time. But not ordinary citizens. Our visits will make a big impact. In this case, we're asking leaders simply to do something that they say they support, and that they know the majority of their voters support. We're just showing them that we're paying attention!
This is a type of corruption that we have the power to eliminate NOW. We're really excited to have you be a part of this effort. We'll send more info and details after you sign up and can answer your questions.
NOTE: The ideal lobbying group is relatively small — typically 5-10 members. Therefore, you might not be invited to be part of this first wave if your group fills up. But we'll have others.
