Current Open Positions:
Position Overview
San Francisco deserves leadership that fights for the people who make this city run, not for the corporations and political insiders who have had a stranglehold on our politics for decades. Saikat Chakrabarti is running for Congress because our city needs a representative who understands the scale of the crises we're living through and is ready to take on the powerful interests blocking real change.
We are building an insurgent, people-powered campaign to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, stand up to corporate power, defend democracy from rising authoritarianism, and bring honest, visionary leadership back to Congress. If you care about economic justice, want to help shape a bold narrative that challenges the status quo, and thrive in fast-moving political environments, you'll fit right in.
The Communications Director is the strategic driver of the campaign's public voice. You will lead earned media, message development, and rapid response: crafting an authentic, disciplined, and compelling narrative that cuts through noise and defines Saikat's vision in San Francisco and beyond. This role is deeply collaborative, working across Political, Digital, Field, and Policy to ensure every message we put into the world is aligned, powerful, and movement-building.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and execute the campaign's press and communications strategy in partnership with senior leadership.
- Serve as the campaign's primary point of contact for local, state, and national media.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and influencers.
- Draft and oversee all messaging materials: talking points, press releases, statements, advisories, op-eds, etc.
- Staff and prepare Saikat for interviews, press, debates, etc.
- Lead the rapid response operation: monitoring news cycles, identifying opportunities, and responding quickly and strategically.
- Coordinate with the digital team to ensure tight message alignment across social, email, video, and web content.
- Manage logistics for press events, major announcements and on-the-ground media opportunities.
- Track coverage, analyze narrative trends, and provide regular media briefings to senior staff.
- Supervise junior comms staff and consultants.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in political communications, campaign communications, journalism, digital communications, or related fields.
- Strong familiarity with San Francisco/Bay Area political dynamics and media ecosystem strongly preferred.
- Experience with earned media strategy, message development, and press engagement.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adopt and maintain the campaign's voice.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain discretion, and operate calmly under pressure.
- Highly organized, solutions-oriented, and capable of balancing rapid response with long-term narrative strategy.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours typical of a competitive campaign.
- Commitment to economic justice, grassroots politics, and building a campaign driven by people.
Compensation
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
- Generous benefits package (health, dental, vision).
- Travel and technology stipends as needed.
- This is a full-time, exempt position based in San Francisco with required in-person work.
